Introduce Vertical, Horizontal, and Oblique Lines
Instructors show the lesson image and ask children to point to the following:
The vertical line.
The horizontal line.
The oblique line.
Instructors show the lesson image and ask children to point to the following:
The light lines.
The medium lines.
The heavy lines.
Instructors and children complete the following drill work:
Instructors hold the pointer in a vertical direction and ask children to name the direction. Instructors repeat for the horizontal and oblique directions.
Instructors ask children to hold their pencil in a vertical direction. Instructors repeat for the horizontal and oblique directions.
Instructors ask children to stand and hold their right arm in a vertical direction. Instructors repeat for the horizontal and oblique directions. Instructors repeat the three exercises for the left arm and for both arms.
Instructors ask children to find a vertical line in the room. Instructors repeat for the horizontal and oblique directions.
Instructors ask children to draw on a whiteboard or paper a heavy horizontal line. Instructors repeat for a light vertical line and a medium oblique line.
Instructors repeat the drill work until children master these three directions.
